Best soft ice cream in the whole world I have loved it for years and years, multi generational favorite for many many families in the area. My sister when coming from out of state, wants to go to Jimmie cone first thing

Came here bases on reviews and I have to say this is my new favorite ice cream place. It is quite "hidden" in the ACE/food lion shopping plaza but it's not in the strip area but directly across from food lion at the end of the parking lot. There are lots of tables so no need to stand around. Also this seems like the hangout spot for kids so the lot is filled with them. I was a bit overwhelmed with the menu as it wasn't clear exactly what flavors they offered and there were all sorts of flyers on the glass booth with additional flavors, and since we were in line I didn't get a good chance to look af everything. So if this is your first time definitely step aside and look at the menu and all the flyers. Everything came out really fast. We got the black cherry soft serve which was a really nice texture and not overly sweet. Also got the mango water ice which was fantastic; it had a sorbet consistency and not too sweet.

As with other Frederick locals, Jimmie Cone is god. If you're ever craving that soft serve cone, or a nice Heath and Butterscotch mix (that's my go-to), this is the place!
(5)Nick N.
J-cone is always the move on a nice sunny day. The Best time to go is mid day, because the evenings can get crowded. However, the lines move fairly quickly and after you get your ice cream you can watch the car show for free afterward if you like. (sat night usually) I got the mini sundae with hot fudge vanilla ice cream it came with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Everything here is pretty good including the milkshakes and malts, this is my go to ice cream spot and always will be. It's a Town favorite, they have another location further up route 27 in Damascus, that location is solid as well. A delicious sundae for $4.00, I will definitely be back before the summer ends!
(5)Katie C.
Best soft-serve ice cream you will ever have! My only complaints are that they don't take credit cards and they're not open year round.
(5)J D.
i grew up going to the damascus one.. the mt airy is just as good just not as deep a history. i love the car shows in parking lot in the nice weather and selections, selections, selections! jimmy cone has it all! the sizes are huge! my onlyyyyy slight gripe is the costs BUT its still cheaper than stone cold creamery or those other places. i guess i just yearn for the good ole day prices haha as for "service" complaints on here, gimme a break. i been going to a jimmy cone for 25yrs+. its a person sitting in a small area, speaking to you thru a small window. ive never been treated rudely nor had any issues. a smile, please, and thank you is what i expect and what i get. im not sure how else they could make their "ok what do you want, the total is xyz, thanks" get any better!
(5)Sandy B.
The place to go, especially to sit outdoors in the summer. When travelling south on Route 97, get a cone here and another at the Damascus Jimmy Cone. Nuff said.
(4)Kevin O.
I love this place! The soft serve ice cream is good and the people are friendly! Be careful the Large Cone is HUGE!!! Hard to eat it all on a hot summer night before it melts! Of course they are only open in the summer but it is a cheap place to take the kids and hang out while enjoying a cone!
(5)Jon K.
5 stars for sure, this place is great! Love this place, fantastic ice cream. It reminds me a lot of the good old local ice cream places I would visit as a kid growing up in Nebraska. It's got that kind of small town feel. The times I have been here in the Summer the parking lot has been full and the seating is outdoors. One thing they do fantastic here is their Chocolate Malts, wow. Additionally, my Father lives out this way and he says they have fantastic cones. You know it's Summer time when you see lines of people at Jimmie Cone :) Definitely, a five star Destination!
(5)Carolyn W.
Forget Rita's! This is where I come when I'm craving some frozen custard. Which is pretty much every day in the summer. My favorite is a small twist (chocolate and vanilla) cone. Even for a small, the serving is generous. I know my boyfriend couldn't finish his medium cone one time. Prices are pretty cheap. There is usually a line during the summer, especially if you go there at night or after a local baseball game. There are several picnic benches to sit at while you enjoy your frozen custard. It is located right in the middle of downtown Damascas making it easy to locate if its first time visiting this summer landmark.
(5)Tracy B.
I don't understand what everyone is raving about. I have grown up going to this place, and it's good, but it's nothing special - just soft serve ice cream - which pretty much tastes the same anywhere you go. And they only have chocolate, vanilla, and twist....occasionally they'll throw in another flavor like orange. Nothing about what they serve is one of a kind or hand made. Soft serve ice cream just comes from a milk-carton like container of mixture that they pour into a soft serve machine. Anyways. It's cheap and has all of the toppings. Family friendly. But they don't accept credit cards and there is always a really long line.
(3)Brenda S.
creamiest soft serve in the world!
(5)ken p.
Best Ice Cream in the DC Area. New Season, Not Quite the amount given in the past. Maybe the economy-maybe I got the "new guy". I went to Damascus. I should try both to compare. Sounds like a yummy project. They're PROBABLY the same, but someone's got to make sure. It just goes to show-the BEST places do not have to advertise & even the location can suck. If you're good, you will thrive. NOW QUIT READING THIS & GO GET SOME ICE CREAM!
(5)Orlangela A.
She Said..."Jimmie Cone has been around forever and looks and tastes excatly the same. Soft serve ice cream with jimmies...yummm...they also have really yummy shakes and sundaes. Definatly come here if u want good desert." He Said..."Yea it was good..very creamy ice cream, but I couldn't tell the difference from McDonalds soft serve. I know they have been around forever but some bathrooms and a credit card machine wouldn't hurt."
(4)S J.
And they're back.....:) Great ice cream...long lines in the summer. That's about the size of it. :) Some additional tidbits....first and third Saturdays in the summer are "Cruise nights" at the Mount Airy location, parking lot fills with classic cars all the way from Model T's to Prowlers and everything inbetween. Some cruise nights will have a dj spinning classic rock tunes as well. Parking can get crowded on these nights, but it's worth it if you have any appreciation for muscle cars and the like. I like to get a sundae with vanilla soft serve, hot fudge and peanut butter topping too. Next best thing to being on the boardwalk in OC...

So the kids went to their first ice cream outing of the year and were so excited to go to Jimmy Cone's. Distracted and talking we missed our call to pick up our order and after about 10 minutes or so we went up to ask where it was. The staff said they threw our ice creams away because they were melting!!! OMG!! And they refused to give us new ones or reimburse us!!! OMG!!! Of course our evening was ruined. So don't go to have a nice time, don't chat with friends but watch for your order like a halk!
(1)Ashley M.
I have been going here since I was a little child. They have the best icecream all around!
(5)Evan S.
The ice cream is a local legend, and justly so. It's really excellent. The "jimmies" are great. Every desert treat they offer is tasty and worth trying. On the other hand, the service is atrocious. The worst in town. It's almost always indifferent, careless teenagers who put zero (or less than zero) effort into getting your order correct, making correct change, etc. On more than one occasion they've been outright rude to people who were slow moving from the window, or slow to decide, etc. Ice cream is fantastic. Service is terrible. Worth a trip, but keep in mind it's essentially a teen hangout with teen staff.
(2)John R.
Jimmie's is a day trip in and of itself. Here I had thought I was going to make the trek out to Jimmie's, get some photos, enjoy a soft serve with, what else, chocolate jimmies, and all around languor about enjoying a summer afternoon with the local crowd, then come back and be first to yelp about it! Oh well, can't be first, but I'm still going to make a trip out there for all the rest! :) Jimmie's is truly a bit of serendipity in the middle of nowhere. I used to commute from Baltimore to Gaithersburg and I was lucky enough to drive by this little place, which blossoms on lazy afternoons with children of all ages. This whole little part of Maryland is worth a weekend's exploring, and I'll see if I can put together enough reviews and a list to tie it all together. Hope a handful of you make it out here and get a soft serve, might just make your summer a little better. :)
(5)Elaine T.
Super in all respects. Lots of variety, huge portions, places to sit down, upbeat local young adults behind the counter. Just a great hometown feel. It isn't summer until you've gone to Jimmie Cone!
(5)Dee B.
Gotta agree with the previous reviewers -- you really can't give Jimmie Cone anything less than 5 stars. You know it's summer when you can't get a spot in their parking lot, and the lines are long. I love the fact that it's a bit of small town Americana...now located in the almost soul-less suburban area that is this area of upper Montgomery County.
(5)Peter H.
A Maryland landmark! Best soft ice cream! A couple notes: all the seating is outdoor, lines can be long but it is totally worth it the wait and ask for "the mistake bag" Just writing this review makes me want to hop a plane to the East Coastand head straight to Jimmie Cone, of course it is probably closed...
(5)Corey G.
You know you are about to eat "the best" ice cream in the area... when you arrive at Jimmie Cone on a friday or saturday evening and there is a 20 minute wait. When you get in the line you don't even mind the wait cause it only adds to the anticipation of the creamy cool sweetness your tongue is about to engage in.
(5)dave h.
Oh, my God, love Jimmy Cone. A classic place in the middle of nowhere, Montgomery County. Jimmy Cone has been a staple for young kids on a Friday night, middle school and high school dates for decades. The line never seems to end on weekend nights, their ice cream is awesome and their splits and blizzards and well pretty much everything is kick ass. If you are looking for a place to go to watch locals and see high schoolers squeal their '87 iRocZ out of the parking lot, this is the place to be. Great people watching. Jimmy cone is a must when traveling anywhere near there. i think they are closed in the winter.
(5)John S.
This is a great place for soft serve ice cream and real milkshakes. All outdoor seating. It's located in the Food Lion parking lot. Friday and Saturday nites are great to sit around have an ice cream and watch the people cruising the parking lot. The first and third Saturday of each month (April-October) there is a cruise-In. Lot's of street rods, muscle cars and classics. Jimmie Cone is a real Mt. Airy tradition. They have another location just down route 27 in Damascus.
(4)Brian H.
A little scoop of heaven. It is always a treat to get consistently fantastic ice cream that tastes like frozen custard. It is simply the creamiest, tastiest dessert in the area and there is no other place that compares.
(5)Lee M.
This place has been around forever and it still kicks ass. Quick service but it sucks when it rains. Thats ok, just eat it in the car.
